Jimmy Barnes is a bit of everything for everyone. A rhythm and blues man, soul man, front man, father, brother, son, grandfather, friend, hero. But to his army of fans, he will always be a rock singer.

Indeed, the most recognizable rock singer this country has produced. With his suit neatly packed away, 'Barnesy' has slipped back into some denim and a tee with no alterations required. He's stomping around like a caged warrior and letting rip with a new album titled Rage And Ruin, a... Read more

US DANCE CHARTS

"I've always liked to keep trying different things over the years, so when I got asked to sing on this track it sounded like fun exactly because it's not what people would expect.  DJ Yaleidys is married to one of my oldest friends, Mark Edwards who is a sweet man married to a talented artist.  It's great that it's going off around the world but I'm not planning on trading in my electric guitars for a mirror ball any time soon.  It's also really cool to see a Dragon song getting international recognition. Like most bands of that era they never got their just desserts internationally." - Jimmy Barnes

Jimmy Barnes in US dance charts

January 18, 2012

Jimmy Barnes has lent his rock voice to a summery dance remix currently tearing up dance floors in the US.

His cameo vocal on DJ Yaleidys' version of April Sun In Cuba entered the Top 40 USA Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart this week.

The glitzy floor-filler is a far cry from Cold Chisel's music - more Ibiza than Khe Sanh - but Barnesy looks at home getting his rave on.

Remixed by Ralphi Rosario (Justin Timberlake & Beyonce, Janet Jackson), the song also debuted at number three on the breakout Billboard Dance Chart.

The joint project was overseen by INXS Manager and Petrol Electric records founder Chris Murphy, who expressed his delight at the song's success.

"I am extremely proud of this release as it completes a musical cycle for me," Murphy said.

"Over 30 years ago, as a young agent I found Cold Chisel in a Sydney wine bar earning $60 on a Tuesday night.

"I became the band's agent for many years and together we broke down many of the barriers the music business then had in place.

"It is hard, some say harder to break into US dance charts than the pop charts, due to every heavyweight star in the world wanting a dance/club chart hit these days. Just ask Coldplay.

"To see both artists collaborate together on Sun In Cuba and have so much fun is a pleasure for me."

To see Barnesy playing the part of dance music icon will no doubt be a pleasure for most Aussies too.

Sun In Cuba by DJ Yaleidys featuring Jimmy Barnes is on YouTube now.
