SAVE THE KIMBERLEY
For anyone who has had the opportunity to spend time in one of the most pristine parts of our world, The Kimberley is sure to hold a valuable place in their heart. If you haven't had that chance, singer Jimmy Barnes believes you'll need to get there now, for soon The Kimberley may no longer remain the precious wilderness it's valued for. Value of a different kind threatens this region. The company Woodside has big plans to exploit the land with what seems to be little respect for Culture and Country as land is already being cleared despite the disapproval of community members.
There's a lot at stake here and it's no wonder that remarkable individuals like Jimmy Barnes are taking a stand and lending their voices to this place once declared as "unremarkable" by Western Australia Premiere Colin Barnett.
Recently Barnes spoke out about the dilemma in The Kimberley by taking to the streets of Sydney in a guerilla tactic busking performance in front of Woodside/Chevron offices. He joined other musicians , simultaneously across Australia, protesting the companies proposed plans for exploiting the land in The Kimberley .
In his latest show of support for The Kimberley struggle, Barnes has teamed up with fundraisers Circle of One Foundation to raise funds and awareness for Save the Kimberley.
Barnes will be autographing two hand painted guitars, donated by Macron Music, to be raffled at his upcoming Lizotte's shows. All proceeds from the raffle's donations will go to support the work of Save the Kimberley volunteers in their battle to protect The Kimberley.
In this latest project, Barnes follows in the footsteps of other musicians including John Butler Trio, Xavier Rudd and Missy Higgins. To date, Circle of One Foundation have raised over $17000 for The Kimberley cause through hand painted and autographed guitars. Through the support of musician like Barnes the message of The Kimberley is being shared and the support of fans strengthens the value of a community willing to stand up for a place that is too precious to plunder.
